Letters From The Inside

Some things you need to hear from someone behind bars.

About:

An interactive sermon series from Shoreline Church

If you were in the message on Sunday, then you know we talked on Philippians 2:1-11. If you weren’t in the service on Sunday the 12th, then you should know we talked on Philippians 2:1-11 which says, “If you have any encouragement from being united in Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness ad compassion, then make my joy complete be being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit in purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and  every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

The challenge for everyone in our church this week is to find where we can serve the people of our community on an individual basis. Where we can perform random acts of kindness and then tell them, “You Got Served,” and then come back here to this website and comment on this post about what they did.

At the end of the week, we should have a good list of how the people of Shoreline have served their community. I look forward to hearing about what was accomplished in this area in the name of Jesus.

  1. Today after church, there were a bunch of beer bottles littering the parking lot of the restaurant that we went to lunch too. So, I picked them up for the restaurant and brought them inside to be thrown away.

  2. While heading back to the marina in Heather’s parent’s boat, we noticed a stranded guy on a sailboat near Eglin. It was hot and our girls were exhausted and whinny, but we went ahead and towed him in to shore. Amazingly the girls stopped crying and when we got there, he said thank you, and that good deeds circle around; he had just helped tow someone else to shore a few weeks back.

  3. The neighbors’ grass had gotten really tall, and I don’t think they have a lawn mower, so I mowed it down for them.

  4. Me & my co-worker, Matt (we wish to remain anonymous) went over to Pastor Eric & Darlene’s house and did a bunch of repair work ALL FOR FREE! I know, you think, “Wow, what an incredibly generous couple of guys!” But truthfully, we are just being humble servants with no reguard for ourselves.

  5. I know this isn’t a big deal, but I brought my neighbors’ trash can in from the street for them. (Maybe I should have waited until the garbage truck had emptied it… but I’m sure they appreciated the thought!)

  7. I agreed to work a full day for someone at work next week… during my vacation week!

  8. Being the “double your pleasure, double your fun” giver that I am (sarcastic), I did 2 recording sessions this week for free. It was actually cool to use my talents that God gave me to serve others.

  9. This week when we were at Big Kahunas, we heard the kids at the table next to us telling a worker that they were lost — had gotten separated from their mom. Since I had seen her earlier, we went off to look for her. Found her panicking on the other side of the waterpark and sent her back to the table to her waiting kids.

  12. Last night as we were coming home from dinner, we saw a man still working on the yard of a home under conctruction. The man had been working his but off from morning to night in the heat. My 6 year old daughter noticed and said we should bring him some water. At first I did not want to go back, but my conscience was troubling me. So, when we got home I brought a bottled water, coke, and a beer to to the man so he could have a choice. He took the water, and told Chloe thank you. I took the beer. I asked her what made her think to do that and she said, ” You bring people water.” We blessed someone in a small way. I was happy to see my daughter gets it.
Also, while in Tom Thumb the other day, I noticed 2 hard core workers in the store. I went up to them and said, “Say dude, lunch on Jesus.” I gave each of them $5.00. They looked at me with a confused look and said thanks. I said,”God loves you, bro” and left the store. We never know if such a small act of kindness can lead to a new outlook on life for someone. Shalom!

  13. That is awesome when the kids get it. When we live this way in front of them, that is how they will “get it”. Not just leaving it for Kids Church to teach them.
